(in approximately reverse chronological order)

This is a programmable trace-heat control system for up to 8.3 kW, with current monitoring, ground-fault protection, RTD inputs, NEMA 4X enclosure, and an alarm system with a wide range of programmable parameters.

This is a two-channel version of the programmable trace-heat control system; it doubles the power control capability to 16.6 kW, and can operate as two separate zones or as a single zone with twice the load capability.

This board is for a programmable pavement-ice sensor for ice melt systems. Sensitive analog circuitry detects ice or snow and the on-board microprocessor provides the output signal.

Computer Prototype
This prototype is essentially a computer with ATSAM4E, Ethernet, RS-485, real-time clock with precision crystal oscillators and ac-line synchronization, additional Flash memory and EEPROM, bus current and voltage monitor, basic indicators and controls, and a power supply. It's able to connect with hundreds of devices on its four network ports.

Snow Sensor Prototype
This is a low-cost programmable capacitive gutter-ice sensor (for ice-melt systems) with a network connection. It can also function as an aerial snowfall sensor.

Breakout Box Prototype Load Manager Prototype
These provide generic analog and digital I/O; the load manager controls and senses load current up to 277 Vrms and 30 amps.

Balanced LED Strip
This new type of LED strip light uses a home run conductor to provide balanced power at the ends. It eliminates the usual brightness drop off from the powered end to the other end, allowing a longer length of lighting.

Dual-Row LED Strip
This dual-row LED strip light uses carefully-maximized and optimized copper in order to provide high performance with high light output and minimal voltage drop.

LED Loudspeaker
A custom LED-illuminated loudspeaker for boats and RVs - the woofer and tweeter cones light up nicely at night.

Marine Disk Light
This marine light has an infrared beam and photo detector for touchless control. A wave of the hand near it will cycle it through bright white (six LEDs), dim red (3 LEDs for night vision), and off. It has 11 specially-designed lenses for the IR control and for the proper light dispersion. The multi-lens and housing were 3D printed.

Wheel Chair Lift Light
Prototype testing and illumination-conformance measurements of custom LED lighting design for a wheel-chair lift that goes on a van or other vehicle.

Lamp current tester coils Lamp current tester coils
This is the turntable (shown removed from rotor base and upside-down) of a factory lamp tester. The custom-designed pickup coils (right) with 3D-printed support structure was used to measure the current of each lamp in 600 ms as it passed the sensor. The control electronics are shown below. If a bulb's current was below or above spec, the unit would beep and show a red light next to the offending bulb. This fixture also was fitted with new specially-designed "gravity" sockets that could test many thousands of bulbs without wearing out.

Turn Counter Turn Counter
This counter was designed for a guitar-pickup winder to show the exact number of turns of wire on the pickup.

Speed Switch
This is a speedswitch that measures and controls the RPM of a tree chipper. It was custom-designed and hundreds were built.

M86 MultiSonic Imager
The Miles Technology M86 MultiSonic Imager converts a two-channel (left/right) stereo signal into a 5.1 format for surround presentation in professional audio systems. It uses my patented linear-matrix imaging process to provide excellent audio imaging, even for listeners way off center, while maintaining pure signal integrity with no steering or dynamic distortion. It provides subwoofer and surround outputs also, and integrates with discrete 5.1 sound systems. It also works extremely well for home theater and home audio, offering a huge improvement in sound quality.

These are the main circuit boards in the M86. These are economically manufactured together and then split apart during assembly.

MPR-450 Six-Channel Amplifier
The MPR-450 Six-Channel Amplifier opened up a new market segment of cost-effective multichannel applications that were previously done with one or two larger channels. A popular application was for background/foreground music and paging systems in restaurants, stores, bars, and offices.

MPA-450 Six-Channel Amplifier
The MPA-450 Six-Channel Amplifier is a version for home theater and home audio applications that do not use an equipment rack.

CP660 Front
The MPR-1K Six-Channel Amplifier could produce 1 kW continous power at 165 W per channel (4 ohms). This can power stage monitors; also a marine version was made for signaling and paging on U.S. Coast Guard ships and cruise ships.

P300 300W Amp
The MPR-1K can hold up to six P300 Amplifier Modules (the standard configuration).

P300 300W Amp
This version of the P300 has barrier-strip output connections for installed systems.

MPR Amplifier Input Panel
Input panel options for MPR-450 or MPR-1K allow barrier strip, RCA, or XLR connections.

MTX-62 Mixer
The MTX-62 6x2 stereo mixer with EQ, channel assign, and output filters.

ACT-1 Cable Tester
The popular ACT-1 Cable Tester can indicate the exact wiring of cables with XLR, 1/4", RCA, or banana-plug connectors. A digital pulse scheme checks for continuity of every pin to every other pin (at 50 times per second) and displays the actual connections with the panel LEDs.

MTI-3 TriSonic Imager
The MTI-3 TriSonic Imager is the predecessor of the M86. It converts a two-channel (left/right) stereo signal into a 5.1 format for surround presentation in professional audio systems. It uses the patented linear-matrix imaging process to provide excellent audio imaging, even for listeners way off center, while maintaining pure signal integrity with no steering or dynamic distortion. The MTI-3 has surround outputs but no subwoofer provision, and only XLR connections.

MX-32 Mixer
This is a small OEM 3x2 audio mixer that can run on batteries and includes mic preamps with phantom power and stereo outputs.

EV DeltaMax Controllers
These EV DeltaMax® Controllers were the first protective power-limiting loudspeaker controllers on the market which did not alter the loudspeaker's frequency response.

EV 2710 Graphic Equalizer
The EV 2710 includes a unique "Constant-Range" filter concept that sums adjacent filters well at all levels of boost and cut. This is an improvement over the typical constant-Q and impedance-variable-Q designs. This product also includes a digital pink noise generator to assist with equalization.

EV XEQ-3 Crossover
The EV XEQ-3 crossovers provide two- or three-way operation of fourth-order Linkwitz-Riley crossover filters. Delay controls allow phase alignment in crossover regions to achieve flattest overall response.

EV ELX-1 Broadcast Mixer
The EV ELX-1 Broadcast Mixer provides 4x1 mixing with low cut filters, signal limiter, test oscillator, and transformer-isolated output. Designed for broadcast applications, this mixer has extremely good RF immunity at all of its connection ports.

EV 100M Powered Mixer
The EV/Tapco 100M Entertainer powered mixer was a popular established product, but with sustained high-level operation it would overheat and shut off. I modified the design to "nicely" (gradually and unobtrusively) cut back on the power level when operating at high temperature, to allow continuous operation.

ADM HR Console
I designed or modified signal processing modules for large broadcast mixing consoles similar to this (most had custom options) made by ADM Technology.

ADM VOA System

I designed several signal processing modules for this custom audio system used for Voice of America broacasts and made by ADM Technology.

Electrical Control Panel
The panels I designed and built at Dynamic Electric Controls were similar to this, but much more neatly wired. They controlled motors, heaters, blowers, lights, and other items to operate production-line machinery. At that time we were in a transition from using relay logic to using programmable controllers.
